Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (“TMJ” or “TMJD”) is a condition that is known to cause migraines, headaches, and muscle pain throughout the head, neck, and shoulders. Many people that have prolonged TMJ problems can experience joint damage and trouble with their jaw function.
Research shows that noninvasive, therapeutic methods are the most successful at managing TMJ disorders as opposed to invasive, surgical treatments.
We use neuromuscular TMJ therapy techniques such as bite splints to eliminate jaw strain. The small splints can be worn day or night, and train the jaw to rest in a position that eliminates strain on the joint. A proper resting position involves the lips being closed together, with a slight amount of space left between the teeth. Results from our therapeutic TMJ treatments are typically seen the same day!
